Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of Americans today. According to the American Heart Association's estimates, 1.2 million Americans will have a first or recurrent heart attack in 2008; approximately 452,000 will die as a result.
The Atlas of Heart Disease and Stroke, released by the World Health Organization, estimates that by 2020, heart disease and stroke will be the leading cause of both death and disability, with the number of fatalities projected to increase to more than 20 million a year.
When I think about optimal cardiovascular health, here's what comes to mind.
* Maintaining a healthy weight.
* Making sure you get lots of antioxidants from your diet (fruits and vegetables) and through supplementation.
* Participating in some form of aerobic exercise on a daily basis.
* Making sure you are well hydrated and get plenty of sleep. Much of the repair and regenerative work of the body occurs while we sleep.
How does garlic contribute to cardiovascular health?
Garlic has long been recognized as a high-quality supplement to support healthy circulation and a healthy heart. One of the key active components is called Allicin, which helps to support cholesterol lowering, antioxidant, blood thinning and antimicrobial activity. Garlic supplements should be specially coated to be effective because stomach acid inhibits activity. Herbalife developed Mega Garlic Plus with an enteric coating to safely pass through the stomach for full absorption.*
Why is it important to start taking heart health supplements now?
Don’t wait. The best way to maintain a healthy cardiovascular system is to start now, before you have developed risk factors for heart disease. Along with a low-fat diet and exercise. Heart Health Food Nutrition Supplements can help to maintain a healthy heart. It is wise to consider a heart health program today.
Foods containing at least 0.65 gram per serving of plant sterols, eaten twice a day with meals for a daily intake of at least 1.3 grams, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.
Put the power of heart health in your hands. Live a healthy, active lifestyle and take care of your heart.

Great to see more and more articles and blog posts about plant sterols - I work at a company called Corazonas; we make tortilla and potato chips that contain .4g of plant sterols per serving. I lowered my LDL 10% in just a month (September is cholesterol education month) by eating our chips 2x a day with meals. That's a good thing but in fact our chips have been proven in clinical trials to lower LDL as much as 15%. You can learn more at our website; www.corazonas.com
